Yacht Planning Guide

Hong Kong Yacht Event Planning Guide

Departure points, routes, catering, activities and weather all matter when choosing a yacht. Use this guide to define your requirements, then ask SKR to check suitable yachts, availability and a formal quote.

How SKR can help:We help match you with a yacht, check availability, and confirm boarding points and quotations. Catering, water activities and other extras depend on the yacht and suppliers. If you plan to arrange anything yourself, check the operator’s rules before booking.

Prepare These Five Details

01

Date & Time

Share your preferred and backup dates, and whether you want a daytime, sunset or evening departure.

02

Guest Count

Confirm the number of adults and children. The yacht must stay within its approved passenger capacity; comfortable group size also depends on your plans.

03

Budget & Duration

Share your total group budget and whether you expect to charter for 2, 4 or 8 hours, so options can be compared fairly.

04

Pier & Destination

Your boarding pier and destination are separate choices. Both affect yacht availability and travel time.

05

Onboard Needs

List your essentials and preferences, such as air conditioning, shade, toilets, dining space or water activities.

Departure Arrangements

Confirm Your Boarding Pier and Meeting Point

Each yacht has its own berth and permitted boarding points. A convenient pier may not be available for every yacht; a pickup outside the yacht’s usual area may affect cost and time on the water.

Urban Piers & Victoria Harbour

Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai and Kwun Tong are possible areas to enquire about. The actual boarding point depends on the yacht, pier arrangements and conditions on the day.

Southern District & Sai Kung

Aberdeen, Ap Lei Chau and Sai Kung may suit daytime charters. Some yachts require a transfer or a designated meeting point.

New Territories West

Tuen Mun Pier is an option to enquire about for a western New Territories departure. The berth, boarding arrangements and available yachts must be checked individually.

Northeastern New Territories

Science Park, Ma Liu Shui, Tai Mei Tuk and other northeast piers can be requested. Tell us your preferred pier or nearby area so we can check whether the yacht can board there and where to meet.

  • Get the full pier name, map pin and meeting time
  • Distinguish meeting, boarding, departure and disembarkation times
  • Check whether boarding and disembarking at different piers is possible and whether it costs extra
  • Send all guests the same final meeting instructions

Routes & Destinations

Plan Your Activities Before Choosing a Route

A harbour cruise, a bay stop and a full day island trip need different amounts of time and different yacht features. Confirm the destination and stop duration alongside your boarding pier and charter length.

Victoria Harbour Cruise

Suitable for sightseeing, hosting overseas guests and shorter charters. Mention if you prefer sunset, night views or a holiday sailing.

Bay Stop

Suitable for daytime gatherings, swimming or dining. Anchoring, swimming and water toys depend on the yacht and sea conditions.

Custom Route

Tell us which waters or filming locations you have in mind. The operator will confirm the route, timing and feasibility.

Planning tip:State your departure pier and destination separately in your enquiry. Weather, speed, the captain’s judgment and pier arrangements may affect the route; the operator confirms the final plan.

Catering & Drinks

Arrange Catering Around Yacht Rules

First decide whether you want to eat onboard. Then check whether you can bring your own food, order a yacht package or use an external caterer. SKR can enquire about the options; menus and delivery require supplier confirmation.

Bring Your Own Food

Ask whether food, alcohol, cake and ice are allowed. Check waste disposal and cleaning rules too.

Catering or Yacht Menu

Confirm minimum guest numbers, delivery pier, service time, allergies, tableware and any staffing.

Drinks Only

For a short harbour cruise, check whether drinks are already included before ordering extra.

Explore Yacht Catering →

Not every yacht offers catering, delivery or staff. Refer to the formal quote.

Onboard & Water Activities

Check Onboard Facilities and Water Activities

Music systems, karaoke, swimming, SUP and other water activities may be included, cost extra or be unavailable on a particular yacht. Tell SKR what matters most so we can check each item.

Onboard Activities

Dining, photos and short speeches are generally easier to arrange. Obtain the operator’s agreement in advance for special sound systems, power, filming gear or decorations.

In-Water Activities

Check sea conditions, anchoring location, equipment, rules and participants’ ability. The captain and operator decide what is safe on the day.

SKR’s main role is to arrange a suitable yacht and confirm available equipment. If you need an instructor, lifeguard, host or on-site event coordinator, mention it early so we can check whether a supplier can provide one.

Sample Schedules

Allow Time for Boarding and Sailing

These examples are for planning only; they are not fixed services or routes. Follow the operator’s confirmed schedule once you have chosen a yacht.

2 Hours | Harbour Cruise

Meet EarlyCheck in and board at the confirmed pier
First HalfSafety briefing, departure and sightseeing
Second HalfPhotos, return voyage and disembarkation

8 Hours | Day Charter

MorningMeet, board and sail to the planned stop
MiddayLunch, relaxation and confirmed activities
AfternoonPack up, return and disembark

Meeting time is usually before the charter starts. Confirm how sailing, stops and boarding time are counted in your quote.

Weather Arrangements

Check Weather and Rescheduling Terms Before Paying

Sailing Safety

Rain alone does not necessarily mean cancellation. The captain and operator assess wind, sea conditions, warning signals and whether sailing is safe.

Third-Party Bookings

Yachts, caterers and other suppliers may have different cancellation deadlines. Confirm rescheduling conditions, notice periods and refunds for each item before paying.

  • Get the weather, cancellation and rescheduling terms in writing
  • Choose one organiser to receive updates
  • Keep a workable backup date
  • Decide when to send final arrangements to all guests

Planning FAQ

Yacht Event Planning FAQ

Can I choose a pier before asking SKR to find a yacht?

Yes. Share your preferred pier and acceptable alternatives. SKR will check available yachts. Some piers or out-of-area pickups may cost extra.

Can I enquire before the guest count is final?

Yes. Share an estimated range first. Confirm approved capacity, final guest count and price before booking.

Can I bring food and decorations?

It depends on the yacht. Explain what food, alcohol, cake or decorations you plan to bring, and confirm setup time and cleaning rules before booking.

Are swimming and water toys guaranteed?

No. Check the yacht’s equipment and permitted waters in advance. Activities on the day remain subject to weather, sea conditions and the captain’s safety decision.

SKR mainly helps match yachts, check availability and arrange charter quotes. Catering, staff and event services require separate confirmation with the relevant suppliers.

Can I get a refund in bad weather?
